Miwa Yanagi was born in Kobe. She was a student at Kyoto City University of Arts, where she completed the postgraduate course of the faculty of arts. Starting from the second half of the 1990s, inspired by young women, she released photos of special effect makeup. In the year 2000, she launched her series “My grandmother” and “Fairytale” among others. She was the Japanese representative at the 53rd Venice Biennial. She started to try her hand at theater in 2010 and wrote the trilogy “1923” and the “Panorama” series that are plays about Panorama Exhibition Halls, or Panorama-kan in Japanese. She performed these plays both at art centers and regular theater venues. In 2014, she toured five cities in America for her play “Zero Hour: Tokyo Rose's Last Tape”. At the Yokohama Triennale 2014, she showed her mobile stage truck for the first time and two years later in 2016, she used it to perform “The Wings of The Sun” in Yokohama, Shingu, Takamatsu and Osaka.
