Checkpoint Theatre "Cogito" Open Studio

Many contemporary Asian plays are not shared among Asian countries due to language barriers and intricacies in cultural / social context, the Singaporean company Checkpoint Theatre will create a Japanese translated version of one of its own stage “Cogito” during its stay.
To seek for a new translation method for contemporary plays, which can tie together literary, theatrical, and intercultural considerations, the team of Singaporean and Japanese dramaturges, directors and actors will work together closely to create a translation that is enriched by the process of devising workshops and explorations.
Checkpoint Theatre’s stay in KIAC is divided in two terms.
During their stay in June, they will open their studio to the public every weekend, and their second stay in February 2017, they will stage the Japanese version of “Cogito” with Japanese actors in a lecture performance.

This project is supported by the Japan Foundation Asia Center.
With support from Singapore International Foundation.
