Yukio Shiba “My Planet” produced by Yomiuri Telecasting Corp.

Yukio Shiba’s theater operates without limits of place or form, whether it be a contemporary Japanese drama or school play performed in a traditional theater, or onboard a ship. As a playwright, director, and founder of the Mamagoto theater company, Shiba will recreate one of his masterpieces ‶My Planet”. Formerly staged with high school students in Tokyo in 2014 and 2017, here it will be produced by Yomiuri Telecasting Corp. with high school students from Kansai selected by audition. Shiba will meet with the performers and crew for the first time during the ten-day residency in Kinosaki. He is committed to reimagining the play while also forming new staging and blocking. In addition, the entire creative process and residency will be filmed and broadcast in order to give a wide range of viewers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the joy and potential of theater. The resulting production of “My Planet” will be staged as the inaugural performance of the new Yomiuri Telecasting Corp in-house theater in August 2019.
