EVENT
Yu-Ju Wen + Jang-Chi + Ness Roque + Ming-Chen Lee + KYOTO EXPERIMENT
“Cruising: Traveling Tongues” work-in-progress showing
1/1
The performance project “Traveling Tongues” is a research and creation process led by four artists from Japan, the Philippines, and Taiwan. It focuses on the multilayered and heterogeneous nature of culture and identity found in stories about food.
Part of the Taipei Arts Festival’s research program “Cruising", the project begins with a residency where the artists will start creating a performance work to be presented in both Taipei and Kyoto.
At the end of this residency, novelist Yu-Ju Wen (born in Taiwan and grew up in Japan), Jang-Chi from the artist collective OLTA, performer and dramaturg Ness Roque (from the Philippines), and Taipei-based artist Ming-Chen Lee will present a work-in-progress showing based on their ongoing research. The performance will include cooking by Jang-Chi, Lee, and Roque.
Food is part of everyday life, but it also holds deep social and cultural meaning. It can bring back personal memories, reflect who we are and where we come from, and sometimes even blur or cross the boundaries of identity.
Through shared dishes and conversations around the table, the artists invite the audience to explore personal stories and ultra-local contexts connected to food. Together, we will explore how different cultures, histories, and identities can overlap and blend.
Everyone is welcome. Please join us for this special gathering.
