Artocrite Theater(藝君子劇團)
Hong Kong/Theater
“We are not righteous in the eye of the secular world. There is no absolute justice or evil on our stand. We refuse to be hypocrites. We offer our authenticity to be appreciated and even ridiculed at a distance and up close.” Through its work, the audience is encouraged to share their thoughts, ask questions and reflect in tandem.
With antinomy as the axis of creation, Artocrite Theater works focus on the relationship between contradictions and symbiosis in the world through the study of the dark side of human nature. Reverse thinking paves the way to a quest for the spirit of truth and virtue. Instead of searching for the absolute truth in theater, audiences are invited into multiple dimensions of contemplation in the process of questioning.
The group’s aesthetic direction opts to envelop four key elements – colour, sex, nudity, violence – with black humour. Through intense visual simulation in forms of physical theatre; multimedia; and stage effects, tacit realities are exposed in front of the eyes of the audience.

The Bacchae − Holstein Milk Cows
1/1
Pursuing social and political themes, Artocrite Theater, a rising contemporary theater company from Hong Kong, will present a work based on a Cantonese translation of Satoko Ichihara's play "The Bacchae − Holstein Milk Cows." The play reinterprets contemporary Japanese theater from the perspective of Hong Kong artists and attempts to unravel various dilemmas surrounding female identity, the ethics of reproduction, and the role of animals in human societies.
