Amsterdam-based interdisciplinary artist-duo Boogaerdt/VanderSchoot will research Butō and Yõkai in this residency titled "How to be healthy in a sick world?" for the creation of their new work.
Tracing seemingly negative motifs such as trauma or sickness, they envisage a performance that responds to today's “sick” society, full of difficulties through this residency.

As one part of the residency they will research HijikataTatsumi’s Ankoku Butō as a type of dance theater that draws inspiration from the darkness of the body and its natural surroundings. They will start from the intuition that Butō has something to offer to societies wracked with bodily trauma.
They explore how Butō’s deep social criticism can have a relationship to the sick bodies on today’s sick planet.
They invite Butō dancer Ima Tenko to work together and hold Butō workshop for the public.

Experience in dance or performing arts is NOT necessary.
We are welcoming your participation!
