Passepartout Duo(Italy) × Inoyamaland(Japan)
Sound Performance “Dispatches”

1/2

Passepartout Duo is formed by pianist Nicoletta Favari (Italy) and percussionist Christopher Salvito (USA/Italy). Through their travels around the world, they have developed a practice of listening closely to sound and exploring ways of connecting with places and landscapes through listening.

For this program, they collaborate with Inoyamaland, the unit formed by Makoto Inoue and Yasushi Yamashita, pioneers of Japanese environmental and ambient music. Together, they undertake a residency to create a sound performance that explores the use of radio transmission technology.

Using multiple household radios provided by local community members and FM transmitters installed inside the theater, sounds performed by the four artists—positioned throughout the space—are transmitted through the radios, emerging from different locations, overlapping and blending with one another. As the sounds continuously shift and transform, they create a fluid and ever-changing sonic landscape.

As the outcome of residency, the completed performance will be presented to the public. An artist talk will also be held to share the background of the project, as well as the artists’ creative process and research.
